Fun Fish Birthday Cake

After 9 years of decorating cakes, I was finally told how to apply icing without ending up with a crumby mess. Pipe it on first and then smooth it out. Uh,yeah… duh. The awesome icing details are my husband’s handy work! So here is the greatest white cake recipe ever.Β πŸ™‚

Fish Birthday Cake

White Cake recipe by Evelyn Raab for Today’s Parent Makes two 8 or 9 in. (20 or 23 cm) layers or one 9 x 13 in.(23 x 33 cm) rectangular cakes or twenty cupcakes.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1tsp baking powder
  • Β½ tsp baking soda
  • 1ΒΎ cups sugar
  • Β½ cup butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 1/3 cup plain yogurt, buttermilk or sour milk

1. Preheat the oven to 350Β°F (180Β°C). Prepare two greased and parchment-lined 8 or 9-in. (20 or 23 cm) round layer pans or one 9 x 13-in. (23 x 33 cm) rectangular pan or line 20 muffin cups with paper liners. 2. In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder and baking soda. Set aside. 3. In a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer, beat together the sugar, butter and vanilla on high speed for about 2 minutes, or until well mixed. Add the egg whites, one at a time, beating for about a minute after each one. Now add the flour mixture alternately with the yogurt or buttermilk, in about 3 portions each, beating after each addition just until combined, and scraping down the sides to make sure everything is well mixed. 4. Pour batter into the prepared pans and place in the preheated oven. Bake round layers for 30 to 35 minutes, rectangular pan for 35 to 40 minutes, or cupcakes for 25 to 30 minutes. Cake should be lightly browned on top and a toothpick poked into the middle should come out clean. Let cool on a rack for about 10 minutes before removing cake from pan.

And don’t forget… Enjoy! –Taryn

July 27 2017 Cheesy Skillet Biscuit Bread with Hot Pepper & Garlic Wine Jelly

#summercooking #foodie #biscuits July 24 2017. Today I noticed the chokecherries in our yard and that the birds haven't ate them all! πŸ’πŸ¦ So, with Apollo's help, I made some jelly and juice! I was always nervous about making jelly. I thought I would somehow ruin it and it wouldn't set. The jelly set perfect. 😊 Maybe it's because Apollo is such a great helper. πŸ€—πŸ‘ July 23 2017 Another book to add to my currently reading list! Back to the gloomy, chilly weather. Unpacking, cleaning & finding "presents" from Dory. 😼 Already missing my Ton, who is spending the summer with the grandparents. 😒❀ July 20 2017 July 20 2017 July 14 2017 Poe jumps off Chopaka Bridge!
